 | HISTORY OF ROTARY CLUB TAGUIG WEST | Jul 23, 2008 |
ROTARY CLUB OF TAGUIG-FTI was chartered on the 26th day of February 1997. The creation of the club was brought forth by two forces of nature. Destiny and sincere passion for coffee and golf. There happens to be a place where dreams and realities merged. Fairways and coffee shops. Frequented by young, dynamic, socio-civic conscious entrepreneurs and professionals, it was the place where they shared common passion, a common urge and common drive to put into action all available energies and resources to a selfless endeavor. Inspired by the constituents from Western Taguig- a community which coffee and rolls to discuss the appropriate plan of changing the name of the club. On 22 February 1999 the Rotary International approved the request; RC Taguig-FTI became what is now known as the ROTARY CLUB OF TAGUIG WEST (RCTW) bearing the logo, The year of 1997, with Charter President, Mario Araos at the helm, was cruised with a continuous surge of passion to serve. 1998 on the other hand, can be best described as an overwhelming and ironically successful year. It was then that the one-year old club was nurtured and caressed by a 25-year old Rotarian named Jop V. Cortez as its parental father. In 1999, ROTARY CLUB OF TAGUIG WEST made its mark to launch its flagship project “Save a Heart…Save a Life”. The inception of of this project was designed during the leadership of Efren N. Reyes to help children with congenital heart problems. This project was also made possible with the valuable assistance of the Philippine Heart Center of Asia. The year 2000 can only be described as the year of awards. Managed by an entrepreneur and a strong-willed individual, Wilfredo L. Decena as the 4th President, made it possible for the club to receive awards as Outstanding Rotary Club; Outstanding Rotary Club in Vocational Service; and Best Club Bulletin (all in Category B). If the year 2000 was the year that RCTW received its first roster awards, the leadership and energy of Ernie B. Montes made possible for the club to hold firmly to what was successfully started. In the year 2001, the club received numerous awards which instituted the consistency and prevailing efforts of the club to do its best in serving mankind. The list is long but distinguished. Among others is the District Silver Service Award, Recognition awards for hosting and pioneering events such as the Taguig-Pateros Mega Jobs Fair, 7th Leg of the Governor’s Cup, Entrepreneurial Development Seminar, The Platinum Oktoberfest, and Night with Rotary Friends. In year 2002, took the reigns of President Benny R. Pagaspas and the community service was his special thrust. Under his focused leadership, the club implemented several worthwhile projects such as the “Training of the community in Commercial Bread Making” which was recognized by the District as the Best Community Service Project (small club category). The Rotary Year 2003-2004, was no less the busy year for the club. At the end of President Mario P. Chan’s term, the club received a “Meritorious Achievement Award” from the District for its Outstanding Ethics Project. This was capped with an “RI Presidential Citation” in recognition of its commitment to alleviate poverty, promote peace, and its support of the Family of Rotary through Rotary Service. Two (2) things are certain in the evolving success of ROTARY CLUB OF TAGUIG WEST. The choosing and calling of the club Presidents in un-debatable. The members are destined to give all-out support in any way they see availability of their time and resources. This is the success history of the club. It started as a dream. Aided by a few birdies and more bogies with hor freshly-brewed coffee and newly-baked rolls, their dreams became a reality. But more than the gentleman’s sport and natural love for coffee, the men and women of the ROTARY CLUB OF TAGUIG WEST are sincere in carrying out their call of destiny to Service Above Self.
